Keyword difficulty is a score (0–100) estimating how hard it is to rank on the first page of Google for a given keyword, based primarily on the strength of competing pages. Early-stage startups should target lower-difficulty keywords (20–40 KD) where they can rank faster and demonstrate ROI from SEO sooner. High-difficulty keywords (60+) can be goals for later when domain authority is established.
For example, 'marketing automation' is KD 85 and nearly impossible for a startup to rank for, but 'marketing automation for fintech startups' might be KD 25 and achievable in 3–6 months with a strong piece of content.
We do keyword difficulty analysis before every SEO engagement — prioritizing the highest-value, lowest-competition keywords for early wins.
